After leaving the halls of Las Lomas in 1966 I went to work for US Steel Corporation in SF for 3-1/2 years. After that I began working for Chevron Corp and worked there for 21 years in communications, leaving my career in 1992 as a FCC Licensing Specialist. I worked for 5 years in contracting with the Contra Costa Water District and the City of Vallejo Flood Control. These jobs lead me into the field of Geotechnical and Environmental consulting, working with Lowney Associates (which was bought by TRC Solutions). I worked for them for 17 years and retired in 2015 as an Office Manager/Admin in the SF office. I enjoyed working, but I am really enjoying being retired.
I received an AA degree at DVC taking classes at night. I also took a few classes at The Academy of Arts in SF. I love interior design and art. I have lived in Contra Costa county most of my life, but lived in wonderful Benicia for a few years. I have seen Walnut Creek change so much in the last 65 years.
My oldest brother Ray was in the first graduating class of LLHS, ‘55. My other brother Bruce (class of ’58 LL) was the first graduating class of Parkmead School. My older sister Carol and her husband George were in the Las Lomas Class of ’64.
I have enjoyed some traveling in the USA and Canada, my favorite spot being Hawaii, which I have traveled to 6 times and going on 7 this year. I enjoy 5k walk/run events in different cities with my little sister Sue and did the 10k in Lake Tahoe (starting at Emerald Bay) 3 times.
My favorite memory of high school was my algebra teacher who took time after class to explain how algebra worked. I was able to comprehend it and enjoyed it after that. I also remember Dean Burk Faraola, who seemed to blend in with the guys without their realizing he was there; and Coach George DeKlotz, who I saw several times years later in Emil Villas restaurant at the age of 92 and thinking how great he looked. I was happy when they named the Las Lomas football stadium after him.
