Mickey Pico Obituary

Mickey Pico, 65, passed away in Santa Rosa, California on May 12th. Mickey was diagnosed with liver disease in 1998 and later learned that he had liver cancer in 2012.
In Juneau, Mickey was well known as “the bagel man” for many years. He set up business in front of Juneau Drug and gained local fame for his delicious danish, bagel sandwiches and sense of humor. He later became employed at Costco where he worked for 15 years.
Mickey was a compassionate man whose heart belonged to the Glory Hole, where he spent time helping out in any way that he could. Whether it was sharing clothing or food with others, or just extending a warm hand, Mickey was there for folks who were down and out. He extended his generosity toward animals, friends, family and even strangers.
Mickey Pico was my dad. In the past year, we have grown closer than you would imagine people could considering our circumstances. My dad faced all of this sadness with a tough face for me, and I will never be able to repay him. Even though I miss my dad, he is now reunited and happy with his mom who passed away a year ago. My dad could always make me smile by giving me a hug or telling me a joke, which is another gift that I wish to repay.
My dad has a friend who happens to live in Washington and in spite of distance they have always been close. Their friendship is an inspiration to me to take good care of my relationships.
The survivors of the incident of Mickey’s death are my mom, Joni, me, his brothers and sisters in California and numerous relatives in Israel.
